January 2006 - GO PINEAPPLES!
I just found your site about our old camp. I went from '75 to '81, and I think i still have your old address in my camp scrapbook. I remember Sherill Pruitt and Boo-Boo and Rosemary Cunningham...Rosemary was a good friend, although I don't know if she'd remember me. I was a dorky, skinny white girl with glasses and brown hair!
I was also in Boo-Boo's cabin. In 1980 I was a CIT with Donna "Spider" and in 1981 I was counselor. I remember You're a Good Man Charlie Brown with Amy the counselor. I also remember doing Sorry Wrong Number with Sherril.
I'm sad to hear that it was'nt used this year by YWCA. Although I live in CA now, I had always hoped to one day send my own daughter there!
I hope you get this message. I do have some old pictures if you still want them.
Thanks for the site! Take care.

Hi Kim,
I think that I was at camp during the time you were there. I beleive I was around 10 which was in 1975 and I went for at least 2 summers. I was in Boo-Boo's group and had an older sister named Pam who went also. She was in cabin 13 near the bathroom/showers. Your pictures really bring back so many memories. ... As a matter of fact, I was looking at a picture of my cabin group the other day. A small portion of the picture is all discolored now, but most of the faces are still in tact. Unfortunately, I can't remeber the names of the girls, but I remember their faces so well. ... I did go to a camp reunion once. I beleive it was in the Teaneck, Hackensack area.
Rosemary (Cunningham)
My sister Rosemary and I have great memories of Wiquanuppek as well. I'm pretty sure we were there in 73, 74 & 75. When I saw the pictures I could almost taste the bug juice, smell the latrines, and feel the mushy bottom of the lake.

To find someone who remembers Camp Wiquanuppek! I was a camper there from 1957 through, I think, 1961, and it meant a great deal to me. I think I probably remember the songs better than anything else, but in my time, swimmers’ skill was signified by the color of their bathing caps, we took amazingly long three-day hikes, the food was mediocre at best – it was pretty terrific.
When you were a camper, were there still a few dozen small cabins, with canvas that you pulled across the open window space when it rained? I mean, the cabins in my time were all open, all around, from about 3’ to the ceiling, and there was this heavy, old canvas that you pulled shut when it rained.
Lorraine (Giroux) McConaghy – known at camp as “Larry”
I went to Wiquanuppek for 6 years- I'm trying to remember if it was '67-'72 or '68-'73. Maybe we crossed paths at some point. Anyway, I was searching around on Google and found your pictures. I had great times there, so sad to hear that it is not used for camp anymore, day or sleepaway. Have you heard from anyone else who went there?
Funny story--I went to college at the University of Wisconsin, and one day was leaving a Psych class when someone came up to me and asked if I was Heather. I didn't recognize her, but said yes, I was. She was a fellow Wiquanuppek alumni, several years older than I, and had recognized me! I often wonder what happened to many of the girls I shared those summers with.
Let me know if you hear from anyone...
Heather
